Green Star Oasis is the product of one raw vegan developer's determination and desire to promote and facilitate the vegan lifestyle and sustainable living.

It all started in 2005 when I first started a raw vegan diet. I had some friends that were vegan caterers, and met many local vegan entrepreneurs through them. For the most part the food services and events that they offered were just known just by word of mouth, which made them very difficult to find. At the time, I had wished there was a place to centralize this information, and make it easier to spread the word, but didn't imagine doing it myself. Later the following year the idea of greenstaroasis.com came to me, and I was compelled to make it happen. I purchased the domain the same day, and put up a 'Coming soon' page shortly after.

I was a database developer at the time, but had no website programming experience, so I was a bit stuck on how to make the web piece happen. A year later, I launched a preliminary version with limited functionality. It was a beginning, but I still wanted to do so much more. After two more frustrating years of life distractions, trying to get various plug-ins to work, looking for somebody to help me, and finally an incredibly inspiring pep-talk from a friend (Thanks Lance!), I decided to hit the books and do it all myself. One year later, the first full version of greenstaroasis.com was born with all the original functionality I had envisioned plus a few more.

Since the time I started developing this site, I learned of many recycling methods and natural renewable resources which are currently being under utilized. This knowledge led me to also include sustainable lifestyle resources in my site as well. I believe that much of the waste and perceived shortages we have can be eliminated by taking advantage of recycling and natural renewable resources on a community as well as on an individual level. It’s amazing how simple and cost effective some of these sustainable alternatives can be. I plan to include as much information as possible to raise awareness of what can be done at home as well as by businesses looking for greener alternatives.

Any suggestions you have are welcome and greatly appreciated. It is my intention to continue developing this site with many more features, and to promote for new listings and information.
